The production of silk started in China approximately 6000 BC. As well, archeologists discovery of silk fibers in the hair of a mummy in Egypt approximately the 21th dynasty. Historians believe hand painting of silk was originated in China as well. The silk trade became so extensive that the major set of trade routes between the Middle East, India, Europe, North Africa and Asia had become known as the Silk Road. As well to this day, China is still the largest silk producer. Hand painting or dyeing of fibers is one of the oldest of ancient arts. Artistians around the world today are still creating beautiful, vibrant wearable fiber art as diverse and interesting as the original craftsman of China, Japan, India and many other European countries. Silk is a rare combination of extreme strength yet a delicate and fluid fiber. |
