The production of silk started in China approximately 6000 BC. As well, archeologists discovery of silk fibers in the hair of a mummy in Egypt approximately the 21th dynasty. Historians believe hand painting of silk was originated in China as well. The silk trade became so extensive that the major set of trade routes between the Middle East, India, Europe, North Africa and Asia had become known as the Silk Road. As well to this day, China is still the largest silk producer.
The dyeing and weaving of silk textiles is dated to roughly 2,500 years ago.

Hand painting or dyeing of fibers is one of the oldest of ancient arts. Artistians around the world today are still creating beautiful, vibrant wearable fiber art as diverse and interesting as the original craftsman of China, Japan, India and many other European countries. Silk is a rare combination of extreme strength yet a delicate and fluid fiber.

I paint with French dyes which are applied to the silk using fine long hair brushes in a bold array of watercolor, and painting techniques. My silk art is as variable, with many vibrant colours presented in the pieces and often *woven for wall art, scarves, or home accessories.

Silk is unparalleled in beauty, and an affordable luxury thanks to modern technology. The beauty is in the brilliant translucent colors as they merge to become an iridescent work of art, and which will always remain soft to the touch. I hope you will experience the exquisite touch of silk and how beautiful it will make you feel.
